*Education experts suggest that when adults learn a new skill, such as using equipment to screen vision, training is enhanced when adults have the opportunity to practice the new skill and receive feedback when using the new skill. Preschool vision screening experts suggest that adequate training to screen vision is necessary and that inadequately trained vision screeners may modify test protocols and significantly reduce the detection of amblyopia. Because up to 1 in 10 or 20 young children have vision disorders that may lead to permanent vision loss if these disorders and not detected and treated early, a face-to-face workshop that includes the opportunity to practice tests and receive instructor feedback is the preferred method for teaching others to screen vision.
